Frequently asked questions.

What exactly does a Doula do?

A doula provides emotional, physical, and educational support before, during, and after birth. I'm there to help you and your partner feel confident and supported throughout your pregnancy and birth experience. During labor, I offer comfort measures like massage, positioning, breath work and meditation guidance. I also help you communicate with your medical team and advocate for your birth preferences.

What’s included in your packages?

Please see my offerings page for a complete breakdown of exactly what I offer.

How much do your services cost?

Please set up a free consultation to learn pricing. If you qualify for assistance I may be able to match you with funding, so prices may vary. I believe doula care is an investment in your family's wellbeing, and I'm happy to discuss what works for your budget

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes! I understand that having a baby comes with lots of expenses. I typically ask for a deposit to secure your due date, then we can set up a payment plan that works for your family. Many families choose to pay in installments throughout their pregnancy. Let's talk about what would work best for you.

What areas do you serve?

I serve the greater Los Angeles area including Orange County and Ventura County. I'm happy to travel within this area for births. If you're on the border of my service area, let's talk. I may be able to work something out depending on the circumstances.

How is a Doula different from a Midwife?

Midwives provide extensive medical care, they deliver babies, monitor your health, and handle medical decisions. Doulas provide support and advocacy but don't perform medical tasks. I work alongside your medical team, whether that's a midwife, OB, or family doctor. Think of me as your families support person who's focused entirely on your comfort and empowerment.

When should I hire a Doula?

The earlier the better, but it's never too late. Many families hire me in their second trimester so we have plenty of time to build a relationship and prepare for birth. But I've also supported families who called me just weeks before their due date. The key is having enough time to connect and understand what you're hoping for from your birth experience.

Can I have a Doula if I'm having a hospital birth?

Absolutely! Hospital births can actually be where doula support is most valuable. Nurses change shifts, doctors come and go, but I stay with you the entire time. I know how hospitals work and can help you navigate the system while making sure your voice is heard. Plus, I can help you use the hospital's resources in ways that support your birth goals.

Will my partner still have a role if we hire a Doula?

Your partner's role becomes even more important with a doula. I'm not there to replace your partner - I'm there to support both of you. I can help your partner know how to best support you, give them breaks when they need them, and make sure they feel included in the experience. Many partners tell me they felt more confident and less anxious having me there to guide them.

When do you come to my birth?

I come when you're in active labor and feeling like you need support. This is different for everyone - some people want me there when contractions are 5 minutes apart, others prefer to labor at home longer. We'll talk about this during our prenatal visits and make a plan that feels right for you. I'm always available by phone before I arrive to help you determine the right timing.

Do you support all types of births (unmedicated, medicated, cesarean)?

I support whatever type of birth you want to have. Whether you're planning an unmedicated birth, want an epidural, or need a cesarean, my job is to support your choices and help you feel empowered. There's no "right" way to give birth, only the way that's right for you and your baby. I've supported families through all kinds of births and believe each one is beautiful.

What happens if I have a cesarean?

I support you through cesarean births just like any other birth. If it's planned, I'll be there beforehand to help you prepare and stay calm. If it becomes medically necessary during labor, I'll advocate for you to have as much of your birth plan honored as possible, like immediate skin-to-skin or your music playing. I can also support your partner during the procedure and help with initial breastfeeding and bonding afterward.

What if my baby comes early or late?

I'm on call for you from 37 weeks until your baby arrives, no matter when that is. Babies don't always follow the calendar! If your baby comes early, I'll be there. If you go past your due date, I'm still on call and available. This is all included in your package, there are no extra charges for babies who have their own timeline.

Do you work with my specific hospital/birth center?

I work with families at all local hospitals and birth centers. I'm familiar with the policies and staff at most facilities in my service area. If you're birthing somewhere I haven't been before, I'll research their policies beforehand so I can best support you within their guidelines. My goal is to help you have the best possible experience wherever you choose to give birth.

What if I go into labor when you're at another birth?

It does not happen often and I take it very seriously. I carefully manage the due dates of my clients to minimize conflicts. I work with an incredible group of birth workers that I trust implicitly. If I'm at another birth when you go into labor, a doula from my network will come to you and I will come to you asap. I only work with experienced doulas who share my philosophy and approach. You'll meet your backup doula during pregnancy so you're comfortable with them.

How do you handle medical emergencies?

My role during any complications is to stay calm, support you emotionally, and help you communicate with your medical team. I do not handle medical emergencies, your medical team does that. I can help you ask questions and understand what's happening, but medical decisions are always between you and your healthcare providers. I've been trained to recognize when situations require medical intervention and will encourage you to follow required guidance.

What is placenta encapsulation and why would I want it?

Placenta encapsulation is the process of dehydrating and grinding your placenta into capsules you can take like vitamins. Many people find it helps with energy levels, mood stability, and milk supply after birth. Your placenta is full of hormones and nutrients that supported your pregnancy, and consuming it may help your body transition more smoothly postpartum. I’ve studied this process under a master doula and handle everything with care and respect. Please see my offerings page for more information!

Can I get placenta encapsulation without other services?

Absolutely! I offer placenta encapsulation as a standalone service for $700 and an add on service at $500. You don't need to hire me for birth or postpartum support to access this service. I'll pick up your placenta within 24 hours of birth and return your capsules within 2-3 days. Please see my offerings page for more information!
